Mechanical engineering Excel templates: stack-up, sheet metal, fits
Published October 30, 2026 — three mechanical design Excel workbooks, what each adds to the site's free online calculator, the two bundles, and a free bolt torque workbook.
In short: three Excel workbooks, each for a question that comes up in a design office. Tolerance stack-up: is the gap guaranteed, by worst case and by RSS? Sheet metal flat length: what length to cut before bending? ISO 2768 tolerances and ISO 286 fits: which limits go on the drawing, and is the measured part good? Each calculation is also available free online on this site; the workbook is for when you need to keep it, name it and apply it to many dimensions at once. $9 per workbook, $15 for a bundle of two, no macros, in English and French.
1. Which tool for which question
Each calculation has its own page on this site, with the method, a worked example and a free online calculator. The table shows what the Excel workbook adds to that calculator.
2. Tolerance stack-up: worst case and RSS
Who it is for: the designer who has to justify a gap, an overhang or an interference in an assembly, and keep it with the design file. The free calculator gives the result of one loop; the workbook keeps each dimension with its name ("flange thickness", "spacer length"), compares worst case and RSS with your requirement, and charts which dimension weighs most, so which tolerance to tighten first.
Tolerance stack-up Excel calculator: up to 30 dimensions, worst case and RSS side by side, a pass/fail check against your requirement and a contribution chart. Offline, no macros, English and French workbooks.

3. Sheet metal flat length and K-factor
Who it is for: sheet metal shops, process engineers and design offices preparing blanks for bent parts. The free calculator handles one bend; the workbook chains up to 20 bends with one radius per bend, gives BA, OSSB and BD for each, works out your K-factor from a test bend and recalculates a bend deduction chart for your sheet.
Sheet metal flat length Excel calculator: up to 20 bends, BA, OSSB and BD for every bend, K-factor from a test bend and a bend deduction chart. Offline, no macros, English and French workbooks.

4. ISO 2768 tolerances and ISO 286 fits
Who it is for: the drafter reviewing a drawing and the inspector who has to say whether a measured part is good. The free calculators on the ISO 2768 and ISO 286 pages handle one dimension or one fit at a time; the workbook takes 50 at once with the title block class (f, m, c or v), gives the deviation, the limits and a pass/fail on the measured value, adds 30 lines of ISO 2768-2 general geometrical tolerances (H, K, L) and 30 H7 fits (f7, g6, h6, k6, n6, p6) up to 500 mm with clearances and fit type.
ISO 2768 and ISO 286 tolerance Excel calculator: 50 ISO 2768-1 dimensions with a pass/fail check, 30 ISO 2768-2 lines and 30 H7 fits up to 500 mm. Offline, no macros, English and French workbooks.

5. The bundles
Two bundles combine two workbooks for $15 instead of $18. They are the same files as those sold on their own.
6. The free bolt torque workbook
Bolt torque has no paid version: download the bolt torque calculator (.xlsx), with the full M3 to M36 chart for µ = 0.12 and the intermediate values (stress area, d2 and d3 diameters), no macros, no sign-up. The method and the online calculator are on the bolt torque chart page.
7. FAQ
Isn't the free calculator enough?
For a one-off calculation, it is. The site's online calculators give the same results and stay free. The workbook is for when the calculation has to be kept, named, revisited later or attached to a design file, and when it covers many dimensions, bends or fits at once.
Do the workbooks work in LibreOffice?
Yes. They only use standard formulas, with no macros or VBA, and their results were checked in LibreOffice Calc as well as Excel. Google Sheets has not been tested: it opens .xlsx files, but the formatting may differ.
What language are the workbooks in?
Each product contains two workbooks, one in English and one in French, with the same formulas. Numbers follow your Excel's decimal format.
Where do the tolerance values come from?
From the ISO 2768-1, ISO 2768-2 and ISO 286-2 tables, the same ones published on the site's pages. The workbook's lookups were compared with an independent calculation on 660 random cases, range limits included, with no discrepancy. The workbook does not replace the standard: in case of dispute, the text of the standard prevails.
How do I get the file?
Payment is handled by Gumroad, which gives the download link straight away and also sends it by e-mail. The link stays in the receipt; with a Gumroad account, the file also appears in your library.
